The goal
The goal with the Mjolnir Hammer was to design a high-performance, multifunctional hammer that naturally transitions between a framing and finishing tool while adjusting weight and balance mid-workflow to deliver superior results.
The Mechanism
The main challenge in designing the Mjolnir hammer was enabling seamless transition between smooth and textured faces. This was achieved with a quick detach system using ball bearings. A 1/4 rotation of the dial releases retention, allowing both faces to loosen for instant switching without tools. A slot for a flathead screwdriver allows for additional tightening if needed.
The hammer's claw seamlessly transitions between curved, straight, and vertical positions with a simple turn of the same dial used for face switching.
The hammer's weight and balance are customizable by sliding, removing, or adding heavy inserts.
During ideation, the concept of an adjustable pommel emerged to facilitate easy sliding of the hammer in and out of a tool belt, addressing the common issue of snagging on loops. This feature ensures a secure grip on the handle while eliminating user frustration.
